A hugely influential figure in modern theatre practice Bertold Brecht is also one of the practitioners that can be studied on the AQA A2 level theatre studies course and other A level courses and BTEC’s.
You will learn about the historical and political background to Brecht’s theatre and about the chosen context in which we explore his work, which is the home front during the Second World War.
We will teach you about the aspects of epic theatre including gestus and the alienation effect through a variety of mostly practical sessions.
You will explore these ideas in short devised pieces throughout the week, building towards a longer piece at the end of the week with banners, signifiers and anything else you may need.
The course is a must for anyone studying Brecht and anyone interested in the roots of contemporary theatre. An accessible, concise and enjoyable look at a very important figure in theatre history.
Our next Brecht course will be run in 2011 with applications being available in the summer of 2010.
