English Restoration Comedy

Influenced by the French style this form of comedy is bawdy and full of innuendo!!

Emerging in 17th century England this type of comedy also has stock characters that have survived through the ages, and ‘The Rivals’, a Georgian version of a restoration play is also one of the set texts for the AQA A2 level theatre studies course.

You will learn about the historical and political background as well as the society in which this theatre thrived, all of which had a huge influence on the material of the plays.

You will learn how to bow and curtsey, how a member of society would have used a handkerchief or fan for the best comic effect and how to do a mean minuet!!

Throughout the week you will learn the conventions of the genre and build towards a performance of a devised version of your own restoration story.

This course will appeal to all those with a wicked sense of humour, anyone doing the AQA A2 level, and any masters of the ooh-err missus!!!

Our next Restoration course will be run in 2010 with applications being available in the summer of 2009.
